the teenage engineering EP sample tool is perfect for managing samples on your K.O. II. use it to upload, download and delete samples from your device, as well for editing and quick assignment of samples to pads. it uses a web midi compatible browser and connects to your K.O. II over usb.
connect K.O. II to your computer
- load the ep sample tool in your browser. if you get the question to enable midi, click 'allow'.
- connect your unit to your computer, using usb-c, and make sure it is turned on and that the volume is turned up. once connected, the sample tool will load your sample library and be ready for use. if your unit is not connected, or turned off, an alert will say "looking for devices...".
interface overview
- to the left you have the main K.O. II interface, with access to the sound edit IN and OUT positions of the current sample, the four groups A-D, and the 12 pads. the MAIN button lets you select project. use your mouse or trackpad for clicking and dragging.
- in the lower section of the display you can also see information regarding the group and pad allocation for the current sample, its sample slot number, its name and length, as well as which project is currently loaded.
- press shift and sound on your K.O. II unit to enter sound edit mode. now press -/+ until the display says TRI (for 'trim'). you can now use the X and Y knobs on your unit to adjust the on screen IN and OUT positions of your current sample.
- the right side shows your sample library. these are all the samples currently stored in your K.O. II unit. the sample list holds 999 sample slots, divided across ten tabs (kick, snare, cymb, etc...). this is the default and recommended sample library structure, but you are of course free to organise your samples any way you like. an orange dot in the sample list indicates that the corresponding sample is assigned to a pad within the active project and group. clicking it will make that pad active. double-clicking an assigned pad will highlight the sample in the library.
- in the top bar of the sample library you see a pie chart and a number, indicating the amount of space used, out of the total 64 MB. the next number indicates how many sounds are currently in the library. the two arrows indicate midi transfer and receive.
- use your mouse, trackpad or computer keyboard to navigare and interact with the sample list, such as clicking on the samples and tabs, or dragging and dropping.
- double click a sample name to be able to rename it.
assign samples to pads
- drag and drop samples from the sample library list, onto a pad in order to assign it.
- if dropping multiple samples on an active group, up to 12 samples will be assigned to pads in that group. dotted red border indicates which pads will be assigned.
edit samples
- adjust the IN and OUT flags to set the start and end points of the sample assigned to the current pad.
upload samples
- upload your own samples to K.O. II by dragging and dropping your files from your computer, to the sound library in your browser.
- dropping multiple samples in the sound library will assign them to the first free library slot in relation to the row they were dropped on. dropping more files during an active upload will add them to the upload queue.
- dropping new samples directly onto a pad will upload all sounds to the sound library, and assign the first sound to the pad it was dropped on.
- dropping samples on an active group will upload all sounds to the library, and up to 12 samples will be assigned to pads in that group. dotted red border indicates which pads will be assigned.
- a green dot will appear next to any successfully uploaded samples from the latest upload queue.
download samples
- download one or multiple samples to your computer by clicking the 'arrow down' icon on the sample row.
delete samples
- delete one or multiple samples by clicking the 'X' icon on the sample row.
note: deleting will permanently remove samples from your K.O. II, so make sure you have them backed up on your computer if needed.
